Strawberry shortcake

After a dinner of homemade pizza –  the crusts made over the weekend topped with Mozzarella cheese from the Hillsborough Cheese Company, pesto sauce and slivered onion – we had a very delicious strawberry shortcake.
 
The cookbook offered two versions – one with a zillion calories and the other a slimmed down version.  Ordinarily, I would prefer the lower calorie version, but the zillion calorie version used the ingredients I had – butter, eggs, whipping cream, sugar, etc. I chose it, and it was wonderful! Maybe an easy solution to cutting the calories in half  would be to keep the natural and easy to obtain local ingredients and just make smaller portions…
